Child & Family Announces New Board and Staff Members

(Middletown, Rhode Island, February 15, 2016) Child & Family has announced the appointment of new board and staff members. The organization is delighted to welcome new board members Diane Hurley and Dr. Steven F. Freedman, and new staff member Happiness Nosike-Unaka.  The Board of Directors engages with local community leaders to support the staff’s various programs and services provided to children, teens, families, and elders all throughout the Rhode Island area.

Diane Hurley has joined the board of directors at Child & Family. Diane served as the Chief Executive Officer of Newport Grand Jai Alia LLC for the last 13 years and had worked in various capacities with her family owned company since its opening in 1976.  Ms. Hurley has served on the Board of Directors for the Newport Music Festival for more than a decade, most recently serving as the Board’s President.  She currently serves as the chairwoman of the board of the Touro Synagogue Foundation, and has dedicated nearly 40 years of experience to various boards and committees including the Rhode Island Chapter of the March of Dimes and the Rhode Island Hospitality and Tourism Association.  Most recently, she became an honorary member of the Jamestown Fire Department.  Ms. Hurley received her degree from Wellesley College and currently resides in Jamestown.

Steven Freedman, M.D. was elected to the Board of Directors at Child & Family. Dr. Freedman earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine Department of Head and Neck Surgery in June of 1992 and became board certified in Otolaryngology in 1993. Steve joined Dr. Dobbin and the Ear Nose and Throat Medicine and Surgery Group in 1992 and is a member of the medical staff at Newport Hospital. His practice covers all areas of general ENT medicine and surgery. Dr. Freedman is currently on the Board of Directors of the ENT Center of Rhode Island. In his free time, Dr. Freedman enjoys golf, skiing, and tennis. He and his wife Linn have two wonderful children and make their home in Portsmouth, RI.

Happiness Nosike-Unaka was hired as the Director of Quality and Performance Improvement at Child & Family in Middletown, RI. She spent the last 15 years in various management positions in behavioral health care at both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Nosike-Unaka earned her B.A. in Psychology and Criminal Justice at the University of Massachusetts, and a master’s degree at Boston University in Business Community, Security, and Risk Management.
