Child & Family Commences Year-Long Celebration – Marking 150 Years of Providing Social Services to Rhode Islanders

(Middletown, Rhode Island, February 16, 2016)

Child & Family is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its founding as the first social service provider in Newport County and as the second oldest in the State of Rhode Island. Child & Family kicked off the celebration with a reception held at held at Child & Family’s Middletown Community Center. Guests included the 150th Anniversary host committee, board members and major donors. Ann Connor, former board chair member addressed the guests and shared with them highlights of her 50 years of involvement with the organization and her interest and passion for supporting the legacy of Child & Family’s work in the community.  Marty Sinnott, President & CEO of Child & Family discussed the important need to strengthen the fabric of families in RI.  The 150th Anniversary Celebration will be Co-Chaired by Andrea Breyer, Nicholas Brown, Ann Conner and Sara Hiebner.

Child & Family’s year-long celebration will include a state wide conference focusing on the transformation of care for children and youth in Rhode Island to be held May 6, 2016 at the Omni Providence Hotel; a family celebration and community day in downtown Newport and a 150th Anniversary Gala to be held in August at the historic Rough Point Estate, former home of the late Doris Duke, a major benefactor of child welfare programs.

Child & Family’s legacy in Rhode Island is deep and the organization’s positive impact on children, teens, family and elders throughout Rhode Island has been great.
