For many seniors, navigating the choices and changes for health insurance can be overwhelming and stressful.  As a volunteer through the Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP), Joe Dobrott stands out as one of the most dedicated volunteers through his selfless service to the elder community.  SHIP offers free counseling and assistance to elders for any issue related to health insurance such as Medicare, prescription coverage, and other health insurance options.  Among those trained as SHIP counselors through Child & Family’s Elder Services Program, Dobrott is the most experienced.  He shares his knowledge, listens patiently to clients and offers an analytical approach for them to determine the best insurance options based on their ever-changing needs.  Joe divides his time between the Portsmouth and Tiverton senior centers.  Joe’s willingness to go the extra distance is demonstrated by his increased volunteer hours, which most recently accommodated unforseen changes to Rhode Island State Retirees’ insurance plans which affected more than 8,000 seniors. Joe’s integrity, passion and genuine concern for others play a vital role in keeping seniors in Newport County informed.
