Middletown (RI) November 6, 2018 – Four-hundred gathered to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Taste of Newport, a benefit for Child & Family, held at The Atlantic Resort on October 28. With the support of Citizens Bank, the presenting sponsor, along with numerous other corporate sponsors and their guests, and many longtime supporters, more than $140,000 was raised for the social service agency’s community programs, which serve thousands of Rhode Islanders in need each year.
The event showcased the culinary talents of twenty-eight of the area’s finest restaurants, caterers, confectioners and beverage vendors, who delighted guests with a tempting range of tastes encompassing appetizers, mini entrees, libations, and sweets. Guests mingled with the chefs, friends, old and new, and bid on silent and live auction items, many of which focused on the theme of “Experiences.”
Patrice Wood, anchor for NBC 10 News, was emcee for the speaking program, which included welcoming comments from Child & Family president & CEO, Marty Sinnott and Citizens Bank of Rhode Island president, Keith Kelly. The keynote speaker, Kristine Hendrickson, spoke of her experiences as a foster and adoptive parent and of the guidance and support she has received from Child & Family as she navigated the family-building process. Guest auctioneer, Canon Anne Marie Richards, orchestrated the successful live auction.
Founded in 1866, Child & Family’s mission is to support Rhode Island individuals and families to achieve their potential through establishing trusting relationships, providing access to resources, and creating pathways to success.
