February 26, 2025—Child & Family Services of Rhode Island Expands Family-Centered Treatment Program to Strengthen Recovery Services
Providence, RI – Child & Family Services of Rhode Island has expanded its Family Centered Treatment® (FCT) program to include Family-Centered Treatment Recovery® (FCT-R®), reinforcing its commitment to supporting families at risk of separation by the Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF).
FCT-R® is an evidence-based approach that empowers caregivers to model positive change while actively involving all family members in improving home life. By integrating best practices in substance use treatment, the program provides comprehensive, in-home support for families with an adult or youth managing a substance use disorder. Notably, all 20 enrolled families experienced positive or stable outcomes with children remaining in the family home, highlighting the program’s effectiveness in fostering family stability and recovery.
As the only provider in Rhode Island offering treatment this intensive, FCT-R® plays a crucial role in removing barriers to care—particularly in a state with the highest per capita opioid use in the country. The program works directly with families multiple times per week, in their homes, eliminating transportation challenges and adapting to family schedules.
Jessie Drew, Director of the Evidence-Based Family Preservation Program at Child & Family, emphasized the importance of a whole-family approach:
“Family Centered Treatment Recovery® views substance use as a family system issue rather than an individual struggle. Through relationally focused interventions, we help families address the challenges of substance use together, strengthening relationships and fostering meaningful change.”
