On Thursday, August 22, 2019, longtime Child & Family supporter Sue Klau visited Child & Family’s Sandpipers Early Learning Center to entertain their Pre-K students with her mastery puppeteering. Students enjoyed the guest reader and got to make their own puppets. Klau was recently honored on June 23, 2019 at the Rotunda at Easton’s Beach during the “We’re Back for Another Novel Evening,” which benefits the Newport Public Library.
Klau, who resides in Greensboro, North Carolina, returns to Newport in the spring and summer months to delight more than 1,000 children as Newport Public library’s dedicated and exuberant puppeteer.
Klau earned her master’s degree in English literature from the University of Puerto Rico, where she and her husband, Jimmy, raised their four children. She has been part of the children’s department at Newport Public Library for more than 15 years, returning each summer to pull up a chair and eagerly read, do crafts or make puppets with youngsters ranging in ages 5-12 years old. She has contributed her time and talent, always with a smile and hugs, for her eager audience.
