For years, Child & Family has run their Holiday Giving programs to provide Thanksgiving meals and holiday gifts to their clients in need. The programs have been very successful, uniting donors with families and children during a very hard time of year. This year due to COVID-19, Child & Family’s holiday giving programs looked very different. While they could not accept physical food, food basket, gift or toy donations, they did collect over $80,000 in Stop & Shop and Walmart gift cards, and monetary donations, providing much needed basic needs support to over 1,000 Rhode Islanders in need!
“Our clients were struggling well before COVID-19 hit. The pandemic has exacerbated issues like homelessness, job loss, food insecurity, and substance use disorder that affect people’s ability to keep themselves and their families safe. At Child & Family we hold two core beliefs; that individuals and communities thrive when supported by strong families, and that a community works best when it is willing to accept responsivity for all their members. We asked our Rhode Island community to step up and help support these families and children in crisis and to bring some joy into their lives, and the support we received was awe-inspiring,” -Marty Sinnott, President and CEO of Child & Family
Child & Family is appreciative of everyone that made a gift at the end of 2020 and during our Holiday Basic Needs drive, especially our community partners; BankNewport, PKF Davis O’Conner, Gil’s Appliances, People’s Credit Union, Magellan Health, Citron Cooperman, the Providence Journal Holiday Fund, David and Diane Canepari, David and Carol Bazarsky, George and Sue Petrovas, Briarwood Meadows, K&R Construction, and everyone else that contributed in making special memories for our neighbors in need this year. Child & Family would also like to thank their staff for their tireless support of the clients in their care, and a special thank you to Landa Patterson, Director of Interns, Volunteers, and Special Events, for her dedication to the success of this program every year.
