Child & Family Services of Rhode Island highlights expanded evidence-based programs.

Child & Family has spent the last several months launching and implementing several new evidence-based programs in partnership with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families. Building on long-term existing and proven effective programs, new features enhance the services of their Functional Family Therapy- Gang (FFT-G), Family Centered Treatments-Recovery (FCT-R), and Family Stabilization Kinship/ Foster Care (FSP-K) programs.

“Child & Family has the data proving our original programs are effective. Expanding and adapting them to these specific populations speaks to our mission to strengthen individuals, families, and the communities in which they live by identifying needs and utilizing best practices,” stated Marty Sinnott, CEO of Child & Family.

Our FFT-G program, with its trained clinicians, is specifically designed to work with gang-involved or affiliated youth aged 11 to 18. The program has a proven track record of reducing criminal activity, minimizing days of confinement, and lowering recidivism rates. This not only leads to improved outcomes but also results in significant cost savings, making it a cost-effective solution. FFT, LLC has acknowledged the Child & Family FFT-G team as successfully implementing the model and has been consulting with teams in London, UK, and Denver, CO, to support other teams in implementation. Additionally, FFT, LLC has asked Jessie Drew, the Director of Evidence-Based Family Preservation Programs ay Child & Family, to co-author a paper as a result of our experience in implementation.

The FCT-R program, one of four sites nationally, builds on the original Family-Centered Treatment model of serving families in crisis. However, it includes tools to navigate the dynamics of substance misuse and trauma exposure. This program empowers families to lead in their recovery by leveraging family strengths, values, and attachment bonds.

An enhanced kinship/ foster family support program, FSP-K aims to reduce placement disruptions for children and youth in foster care. Staff have additional training in kinship, adoption, and foster care challenges, and FSP-K families receive additional sessions with clinicians.
