March 28, 2022 – What makes Child & Family a special place to work? The simple answer is the people: the dedicated group of professionals who have made the choice to work for a health and human service agency that serves their communities and the people who live in them. Child & Family was established in 1866 to support the children and families of Newport County. Over the years they have expanded to servicing all of Rhode Island, from those as young as 6-weeks-old, to the other end of the lifespan with clients that are over 100-years-young!
Meet Alicia Jones, Child & Family’s Senior Accounting Assistant, and please congratulate her as she celebrates her 21st anniversary working at Child & Family. Alicia’s history goes back even farther than that. At age 3, Alicia attended Child & Family’s nursery school when it was on School Street; now it is called Sandpiper’s Early Learning Center. For generations, this program has given families of Newport County the support they need so that parents can go to work knowing their children are being safely taken care while receiving the highest quality care and educational experiences.
“It takes a special kind of person to work for a non-profit. You need to care about the mission and know that every job here supports our community. I grew up with both parents working, and we depended on the services offered from organizations like Child & Family. After 21 years, the people I work with are my family.” -Alicia
Child & Family is honored to welcome back another graduate of Child & Family’s nursery school, Veronica “Ronnie” Bourget-Callandret, our newest Family Care Community Partnership (FCCP) Family Service Care Coordinator. Ronnie and Alicia attended Child & Family’s nursery school together, as well as grew up through the Newport School system, and now get to reconnect as co-workers and friends.
“I first started working at Child & Family in their Residential and Semi-Independent Programs about 12 years ago. Prior to COVID, I was living in Florida working in the hospitality industry and had gotten laid off once the pandemic started. Moving back home to Rhode Island seemed like the best option for me, and I always knew Child & Family was a great place to work. I was impressed with how professional and easy the hiring process was. All my questions were answered. The process was easy, seamless, and I received a job offer right away. My supervisors here are extremely helpful, and I know there are many opportunities for growth between programs.” -Ronnie
Child & Family is always looking for talented individuals that want to better their communities and help serve the people who live here. They offer competitive benefits and compensation and provide training to help you reach your professional goals. To learn more, visit childandfamiylri.org.
