Child & Family to Assist Older Adults Struggling with Social Isolation through a “Breaking the Cycle” Grant Provided by the Rhode Island Foundation

July 19, 2022, Providence, RI – Child & Family’s Aging Well Program is pleased to announce that they are accepting referrals for adults, age 65 and older, for a new home-based program created with funding from the Rhode Island Foundation. The service is available to residents of the city of Providence, RI, who would benefit from meetings to improve their social connections.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many older adults experienced an escalation in symptoms of depression and anxiety. Social isolation has exacerbated these conditions. The “Breaking the Cycle” grant is designed to align older adults in need of social interactions with Child & Family staff to assist with improvements with emotional and behavioral health.

This grant provides a Clinical Case Manager to meet in a person’s home on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. At first, a staff member will provide support by hosting discussions designed to improve a person’s feelings of connection. Together goals will be developed collaboratively and can include staff in making referrals to agencies for additional resources.

Child & Family is very grateful to the Rhode Island Foundation for providing funds so that they can provide this important service to those in need. There is no cost to be part of this new program and appointments can be scheduled by email to Lena Steinberg at Lsteinberg@childandfamilyri.org, or by calling 401-207-5708.
