Child and Family is honored to have been selected as a beneficiary of a Blue Cross Blue Shield BlueAngel Community Health Grant, which for the 5th year in a row was focused on supporting access to safe, stable, and affordable housing throughout Rhode Island.
As one of the oldest non-profits in Rhode Island, Child and Family’s supportive housing program in Newport provides safe secure housing to homeless families throughout the state. Homelessness grew in Rhode Island by nearly 50% between 2018 and 2022 and access to affordable housing is a common issue for many of the families served by Child and Family. The awarded $25,000 will support this program by being utilized for rents, staff costs, programmatic expenses and much more.
The Supportive Housing Program at Child and Family addresses the multiple stressors families enrolled in the program experience that led to their ultimate housing displacement. The program is exclusive to families with children and is designed to provide the necessary structure and housing stability needed to help them grow, prosper, and succeed after leaving Child and Family’s traditional living program.
For the 12 to18 months families are living in supportive housing they can access counseling, assistance to secure permanent housing, access to education and job training, recreational activities, and case management.
As one of the largest social service agencies in the state, Child & Family operates Community Centers in both Middletown and Providence, a residential home for youth in Aquidneck Island, Sandpipers Early Learning Center in Middletown, a Supportive Housing program for homeless parent(s) and their children, Family Preservation Programs, Case Management Services for Older Adults, Independent Living Programs, Foster Care and more.
