Adopt-A-Family & Holiday Giving

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can adopt a family through Child & Family, and when does the program go live?

Any individual, business, or organization can sign up to adopt a family. Our elves are collecting and entering wish lists on an ongoing basis. New families join our programs daily. If you don’t see a family that is right for you, please check back frequently.

Where and when should I drop off gifts?

If the ID for the family you have adopted ends in 05, gifts can be dropped off in Providence at 1268 Eddy Street. If the ID ends in 42 they can be dropped off in Middletown at 31 John Clarke Road.

When should gifts be dropped off by?

Please drop gifts off at our Providence or Middletown office by Friday, December 12th. If you need a little extra time to shop, please contact Madeline Walsh at mwalsh@childandfamilyri.org.

How will I know who I am shopping for?

You can choose your own family or an individual to shop for. They will be uniquely identified by a profile ID. Their profile will contain details such as their age, gender, and personal interests. It will also contain needs and a wish list.

Should I wrap the gifts?

Please drop the gifts off clearly labeled with the profile ID written on the bag, box or a sticky note on the item. We would like gifts to be unwrapped this year. If you would like to purchase wrapping paper, and or supplies, it would be welcome. The youth’s adults will wrap their presents for them.

I adopted a family, and I am no longer able to provide gifts. What should I do?

Please contact Madeline Walsh at mwalsh@childandfamilyri.org as soon as possible so we can open the profile back up for adoption.

Can I provide more than the family asked for?

Of Course! Families would appreciate gift cards to Walmart, Target, Aldi, gas stations, and other stores based on the child profiles. Additionally, see our suggested list of items for older children and teens.

Amazon Wish List

This year, we are making a concerted effort to keep the teens and older youth in our programs in mind. We have created an Amazon wish list to make it easier to select items that are of interest to them (see below). Additionally, they always appreciate gift cards to fast food restaurants and personal care items.
