Newport Celebrates Black History
by Alicia Jones

Black History Month is a time to honor the contributions and courageous paths that our ancestors blazed for all of us here today. It is also an opportunity to recognize our local citizens and their contributions to the community.

Every year there is a theme endorsed by the President of the United States and this year’s theme is “African Americans and the Arts.”

On February 26th from 3pm-6pm the Newport Art Museum is hosting a free event at Innovate Newport to celebrate Black Excellence in Newport. Attendees can view and purchase the works of local Black artist while enjoying free food and music.

A special shout out to Taste of Newport Favorite the Humming Bird Newport, whose delicious dishes will be available for tasting.
