Child & Family Receives $120,000 in Grants for its Community Programs

National, Local and Family Foundations Provide year-end Support

Middletown, Rhode Island, December 12, 2017 –  Child & Family is pleased to announce the receipt of a total of $120,000 in recent gifts from local and national charitable foundations. The grants will support Child & Family programs which serve vulnerable children, at-risk families and elders in need, throughout Rhode Island.

The Walmart Foundation has gifted Child & Family $50,000 for its Supportive Housing program which provides safe, affordable housing to homeless women and their children under the age of 18. Many of the women served by this program were previously living in unstable, dangerous environments and also face complex issues including underemployment, spousal/partner abuse, and poor mental or physical health. The goal of the Child & Family Supportive Housing Program, which is based in Newport, is to help women achieve stable residency and financial independence.

The beneficiary of a $42,000 grant from the van Beuren Charitable Foundation is the Child & Family Elder Services program. This grant will fund home-based, behavior health counseling  provided by licensed clinicians to reduce the symptoms of depression and to improve health-related quality of life among elders impacted by depression.

Administered by the Rhode Island Foundation, the Canepari Family Fund  has approved a grant in the amount of $25,000 to Child & Family. These funds will be used to provide assistance to homeless families served by one or more Child & Family program area.

The Rhode Island Foundation has granted Child & Family $2,500 for its Elders Services program, earmarked specifically to address basic needs of elderly clients in crisis situations. Child & Family Elders Services clients are sometimes unable to meet their own basic needs and require short-term assistance to secure safe housing, food, clothing, medication or other basic human needs, while long-term solutions are forged by Child & Family case workers. These funds will be allocated to the Metro-Providence area.

We are so thankful to receive these generous grants, reflecting the support of both national and local charitable foundations, as well as a family foundation,” said Marty Sinnott, President and CEO of Child & Family. “During the Holiday Season, we are especially mindful of the many needs of the children, families, and elders in our care, across our numerous Community Program areas. We welcome our neighbors state-wide to join with these foundations and support the important work of Child & Family throughout Rhode Island,” added Sinnott.
